What Identifies America as a Christian Nation?

Rousas John Rushdoony (April 25, 1916 – February 8, 2001) was a Calvinist philosopher, historian, and theologian and is widely credited as the father of Christian Reconstructionism and an inspiration for the modern Christian homeschool movement. His followers and critics have argued that his thought exerts considerable influence on the Christian right

Here is a link to an audio by RJ Rushdoony on America as a Christian Nation that I think is worth listening to and discussing.

If America used the Bible as the standard for laws nationally and within states, would this be good or bad for unbelievers? How did the Puritans handle this issue? Here are a few verses to consider summarizing toward that end.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  Matt 28:19

And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God. Lev 19:10

And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. Lev 19:33

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Lev 19:34

Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God. Lev 24:22

To a person who is non-believer, in my own heart, I think deep down they are longing for the same thing Christians are: to go HOME. The struggle for non-believers would be changes that would need to be made. Daily life and activities are being affected here, and depending how stubborn of an American you are working with, it can be extremely hard for them to accept the truth/change.

Alex I totally agree. Americans never want to change unless the change is perfect for them. Which is why Obama won the election, he he let people fill in the lines of his ideas so in a way they got what they wanted.

Yeah i seems like many people always want change and talk about who or what need to change but dont want to change themselves. Not everyone is like that but I know many people who are like that sadly most of them are Christians. They can talk and talk about what they think is wrong but are either doing the same thing or not willing to take the first step towards change.
Everyone has a sort of role model that they come after bad or good... that is why we Christians have such a hard time living for God. We have other role models besides God whitch cant be good unless its God whitch is why we cant be like him.

I totally agree! I think America doesnt relize how much we follow our humanly role models, which means we are slowly pushing out our Heavenly Role Model!!!

Wow... Just wow. I'm in info overload right now. The civil War was started to begin the process of humanistic recronstruction. You could've been arrested in Soviet Union for tithing because it was a Federal Institution. All things excetp govenmental salaries and defense were provided for by Christians. That sounds so nice. It seems like it would be so easy to get rid of public schools with just a lawsuit.

This answers my question about how to have religious freedom. We can't allow total freedom for fear of anarchy. Christianity should be common law and we make laws based on it. It's interesting, after that court ruling, Mormons changed their teachings to avoid persecution. They caved to the state. That's where they lose my respect. Anyone can be decieved but they didn't stand firm.

I'm really starting to think that all of our teachers plan their lessons together! Is it just me or do guys think so too?
That was a very interesting audio! I really did learn a lot from it. Its crazy yet sad how far we have strayed from our roots in this nation.
